100 Miles an Hour,,

Posted by: MidwestMom   in Children, Family, Family Life, Moms, Writing, food

So Danielle came up to me telling me that she was starving so I made her favorite Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly sandwich with no crust.. After she devoured her lunch she got out her jump rope which she has been practicing how to use it on a daily basis, If she can’t find it she will use what ever she can find, ie.. Vacuum cleaner hose, my scarf. Anyways  My mother had called to inquire about the new 2010 calendar that she made just for Danielle, As I called her over to talk to Grandma, Danielle was out of breath,I had the phone on speaker  and My Mother asked Danielle why she was so out of breath to which she said “ I have been jump roping 100 miles an hour for 20 days”… I love how my 5 year views the concept of time :-) ..

Thank you to the wonderful people at prplacebutton I was given the wonderful opportunity to read and review this wonderful heart touching book  about The Snowman’s Song starsanscover  The synopsis ~taken from sight

Longed-for dreams
sometimes come true…

A forlorn little snowman hopes, prays and
yearns with all his heart for a beautiful
melodic voice so he can rejoice by singing
Christmas carols just like human children do.

There is little hope that he will ever have
a voice, because the snow world is quiet
and snowpeople communicate by sensing
thoughts and feelings that travel as ice
droplets in the swirling cold winter air.

But when a cheery red cardinal awakens his
mind and a kind young girl renews his hope,
a Christmas miracle happens and the
little snowman realizes his longed-for
dream in a powerful, joyful, unexpected way.

I read this joyous book in front of the toughest critics  , Seventeen 5 and 6 year old Kindergartners,  I received very positive results  When asked what was their favorite part of the story the majority told me When the little girl in the story comes back and gives the Snowman a kiss on the cheek and gives him her scarf   . Each child listened and awed over the beautiful  illustrations by Tracy La Rue Hohn and were quite fascinated with the tale of the Snowman and how he wished he had a voice of his own. Afterward another teacher who teaches 2nd grade wanted to share this with her class and  each child came up to me to Thank me for bringing such a wonderful book to share with the class. But The book did not end up there it was Donated to the School Library for others to enjoy as years to come

My opinion ~ I highly recommend this book and to share The Snowman’s song with their own family you can read the story your self or listen to the audio CD provided which is read by the author her self Marilee  Joy Mayfield. This is truly a feel good heart warming story perfect for the season, I’m very grateful that I had the chance to read this to My daughters Kindergarten Class and pass it along for others to read.

If you would like to hear an audio sample of the story please visit http://www.snowmanssong.com

Effortless waves~ A beauty tip for hair

Posted by: MidwestMom   in Blogging, Family Life, Moms, Reviews, Writing

Being a mom I find it a task to actually do something with my hair most days it is pulled back into a pony tail  , Do I have the time to spend on my hair  not really with  kids having  5 minutes to my self  would be a treasure  and don’t even get me started on the damage that past child birth hormones have managed to take my once full of life  bouncy hair   to something that resembles what a cat might cough up in the middle of the night. Alas there is hope  and Dove  Go Fresh  Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner  was there to help along with Dove Curl and Sculpt defining mousse .   I was given the opportunity to try out this extraordinary  shampoo and conditioner and I was a bit skeptical at first, With so many brands on the market that claim help for hair problems I was just unsure.  I gave Dove  Go Fresh Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner a try and voila  I could feel the life being breathed  back into my life less hair. Now what to do with this  hair full of life I went to the store to purchase  Dove Curl and Sculpt defining mousse and followed the Beauty tip that was featured  via the widget on the side bar and it was really simple  to do   and if you would like to experience  loose wavy hair which is a hot trend  in the girly world

1.Dispense a dollop of Dove Curl and Sculpt Defining Mousse into wet towel dried hair

2. Braid into sections

3. let hair dry and undo braids comb through with fingers

End result ~ Beautiful Loose wavy curls

Happy Birthday to me ::

Posted by: MidwestMom   in Birthday, Blogging, Children, Events, Family, Family Life, Moms, Writing

Today is just another day to most people, But to my wondermous Mother it is a day that  thirty six years  ago I came into her life  Sorry Mom that I was born early in the morning  and gave you massive heartburn for 9 months. But it was all worth it right?? Any ways today I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the delicious breakfast that my Master Electrician  will   make.  My favorite  of course  Ham and scrambled eggs and little to no house work ( well maybe a little bit)  And get all the Hugs and Smooches from my  Kidlets. And also savor   The  Yummalicious  IdahoSpud Candy Bars that my Mother sent me from my home state of Idaho. * No Spuds were harmed or used  in the process* These Concoctions  are only made in Idaho and can only be purchased there unless you go to their website and order them. They are made of Chocolate Flavored Marshmallows covered with Chocolate and Coconut ..As soon as I opened the box  I could not resist I had to have one  . Master Electrician and the kidlets took me out for Dinner on Friday to one of my favorite Mexican Restaurants  where I devoured  a Chimichanga   Thank you  my wonderful family..   I love you very much  :-)   and Thank you for being in my life.Oh and one more thing that I plan to do is  decorate the house for Halloween , I found some way cool decorations at Goodwill and The Dollar Tree store that I just can not wait to  decorate with..I love this time of year .  Happy Birthday to Me !!! little me

Life of an Oil Driller

Posted by: MidwestMom   in Blogging, Family, Moms, Travel, Writing

* This excerpt  is an actual letter sent to me from a very good friend of mine who’s son is an oil driller*

Let me introduce to you Paul who has been oil drilling for thirteen years. For the past  five he has spent his time on the DeepWater PathFinder in Nigeria . When  not on the DeepWater Pathfinder  , Paul “Commutes” back and forth to his home State of Katy Texas. If you have ever wondered what life would be like on an Oil Rig , Here is Paul’s “Rig Simulation”

Rig Simulation

I’m not infrequently asked what it’s like to be on a rig. So for those of you wishing to share in the experience I have devised a little simulator, so that you too can have your very own offshore experience from the comfort of your own home.

First of all, you need to simulate the unit, i.e. the room you’ll be spending 12 hours a day. So take a room in your house and divide it in two (a blank et or some bits of board should do the trick): half a typical room is about the size of a typical unit. Remove anything remotely decorative or comfortable, and turn everything remaining grey. Find yourself a metal desk, perhaps a filing cabinet too, and then a chair. Break the chair and try and fix it: make sure you can’t sit back and relax. Set up a laptop and other random bits of electronics, and give yourself an intermittent internet connection. If you’re feeling particularly determined, have no internet at all.

We have now our basic workspace, but the ambience is all wrong. Crank up the heat to an unbearable level, and install a gigantic air conditioner/fan in the room. Ensure it doesn’t work. Allow it to switch and blast air around very noisily, but make sure it isn’t remotely cooling. Just outside of the room/unit, you need to create a source of noise. Perhaps 10-15 hoovers might do the trick. This is mere background noise, to accurately simulate the agonizing screech of the crane I’m currently enduring, you may need to borrow a friend’s cat and have it tortured at ten minute intervals. Really, really hurt this cat, over and over again. In fact, put it in front of a megaphone as you do so

I Shaved my legs for this…

Posted by: MidwestMom   in Children, Family, Family Life, Moms, Writing

Wednesday I should of stayed in bed,  I get up make breakfast for the kidlets take them to school  then back home shaved my legs and on my way out the door to take the oldest kidlet to the Dentist office.  We arrive  ten minutes early for her 9 am appointment.   Well 30 minutes go by and people that have came in after us are called first. Okay thinking perhaps they are just special , I walk up to the little window and ask “When will  my daughter be next”?  The Lady looks up at me then looks at her computer screen and proceeds to tell me that we were scheduled for  9:30 and it will be a few more minutes. Thinking perhaps she  is right I go out to the car and find the appointment card that the very same lady filled out the last time, Ha Ha jokes on you lady . It says 9am so I walk back and show her that it clearly stated 9am. Well with a little smirk on her face she rolls her eyes and says HMM okay , fine you will be called next. I felt like  telling her that perhaps she should spend more time with the appointment book than gossiping about the latest BS in office receptionist world , But no I smile and say Thank you. At this point I’m thinking why me and why the hell did I shave my legs for this. On the way home  I noticed that the steering wheel is hard to turn so I pull over in to a parking lot , lift the hood and alas the power steering  fluid is low  just great  so as I was filling it up I spilled some of it on the engine I wiped up what I could and back on to the Highway , Now the freaking car  smells funny and smoke is coming from the hood.I get home and  realize that I did not get the required  note to excuse my daughter from school, back to the Dentist office  get the note   then back home. My dear darling daughter reminds me that I need to mail off a bill  payment.  So to the post office  . To my surprise there is  grape jelly on the envelope and all over my wallet  and  sitting at the bottom of my purse  is a glob of grape jelly. How sweet my youngest must of been in my purse  the night before  and left me a present. I swear some days  are just not worth shaving your legs ….
